Flood October 2024

On Wednesday 9th of October, a strong storm hit France and resulted in the flood on many buildings of the university campus, including, of course, those in and around the town of Orsay. ALTO was impacted during the morning of Thursday 10th of October after the retention basin gates were open, around 10h00. The maximum water flow rate recorded was 40.5 m3/s at 21h00. As a comparison, during the flood on June 2016, the maximum recorded value was 25.4 m3/s. After a few weeks of hard work of the platform staff, several areas are now ready to restart their activities. And a detail inventory and status were possible in the most impacted areas. The experiments scheduled between October 2024 and January 2025 have been cancelled or postpone. The new beam time schedule will be published by the end of December.
